Raj K. Anand

Former Professor of Pediatrics at the T. N. Medical College and former Medical Director of Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, India, Dr. R. K. Anand, MD (Ped.), FRCP (Edin.), DCH (Lond.), is an authority on breastfeeding and in the field of Social Pediatrics. For his contributions in the field of pediatric education, research and child care, he was awarded Fellowship of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics and that of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh.

One of Dr. Anand’s crusade has been ending the exploitation of the child consumer. He was a member of the working group set up by the Government of India for drafting the Code for the Marketing of Baby Foods. He is the founder-president of the Association for Consumers Action on Safety and Health (ACASH) and founder-member of the Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI).

Dr. Anand has been advisor and resource person for UNICEF, Consumers International, International Baby Food Action Network, World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) and Health Action International. He has been contributing regularly to national and international scientific journals and to books on child health. His book, "Dr. R. K. Anand’s Guide To Child Care" which deals with a holistic approach to child care has been a best seller.  »
